....live in a VAN down by the RIVER
A church parishioner asked me if I would be willing to be the motivational speaker at her high school's "academic pep really." The purpose of the pep rally is to motivate the students to perform well on upcoming standardized testing despite not receiving grades. Although the students do not receive grades, the school is graded by the students' scores.
rah-rah-sis-boom-bah
do your best so-we-get moolah
For a variety of reasons I had to turn down the engagement. But I am still curious as to what one would say to motivate these students. So here's the question readers, blogging friends, and lurkers (those who visit and read but never comment), what would you say to them?
and I've already got "reach for the stars...at least you land on the moon" so you can't use that.

"Your teacher won't love you unless you do well on this test."
Tell the "boy and the beach full of starfish" story and tell them at the end "I was THAT boy...and thats why you should make sure to fill in all those bubbles like the example shows you at the beginning of each exercise."
I would go this route...
The shoe lost a nail, so the shoe became loose, the horse stumbled because of the shoe, the general fell because of the horse, when the general fell, the army lost heart, when the army lost heart they lost the battle, when the battle was lost they lost the war...all because of a nail.
So, DON'T BE THE NAIL! HANG ON, DO YOUR BEST FILL IN THE BUBBLES AND DON'T COLOR OUTSIDE OF THE LINES FOR GOODNESS SAKE OR ALL MAY BE LOSSSSSSST AND IT WILL BE ALL YOUR FAULT!!!!!
I would use any of those if I could say "WOOOOOOOO-WEEEEEEEEEEE" at the end!
